Glass fibre roving

Instructions

Grind the edges of the hole to get a complete and clean laminate and to increase the adhesion sur- face. Grinding an area 12 to 25 times larger than the thickness of the laminate will provide excellent adhesion for repairs.

Cut out fibreglass to fill the hole until the thickness of the laminate has been reached. If needed, put a plastic-covered anvil or similar on the inside of the hole for support.

Mix polyester with 1-2% hardener and apply with roller or paintbrush. Then put on the fiberglass piece and apply new polyester. It is important that the fibreglass is saturated with polyester. You can see that it is saturated when the fibreglass is wet and looks greyish.

Roll out any air pockets from the wet resin with the aluminium roller. You can put on about 5 layers of glass without it hardening in between. Roll between each layer. When the patch has hardened, sand the surface and paint it with e.g. Topcoat. If the surface needs to be smoothed out, use the polyester spatula. For minor surface damage, use the gelcoat spackle.
